In recovery there are going to be sunny days and rainy days. Staying busy and finding fun things to do on rainy days is  important.  In our Saturday teletherapy group we talked about changing your thinking and attitude because of rain expected over the Memorial Day weekend.  Clients who attended the group will get a double bonus for doing rainy day activities (what other treatment program gives you a bonus for healthy lifestyle activities??). Ideas included doing a craft (making slime, a lady bug or bumble bee, making something out of a pallet, making a pillow case out of a t-shirt, repurposing something from the thrift store, wood burning -don't burn your house down!, putting a rain coat on and going outside, glass etching, wood carving, making a necklace) cooking, and exercising or going to they gym.

Did you know that feeling awestruck is a better stress reliever than other kinds of mental breaks? A study from University of California, Berkeley, shows that taking time out of your day to notice small wonders, like dewdrops on a blade of grass, can alleviate symptoms of stress in your body. One more reason to stop and smell the roses! Every day I ask God to give me a sense of awe and wonder and ask him to reveal himself to me.

Want to increase your lifespan? According to a new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, people who feel younger live longer.

The researchers asked individuals aged 52 and older, “How old do you feel you are?” Throughout the follow-up period, the mortality rate among those who felt younger was 14.3%. For those who perceived themselves to be the age they were, the rate was slightly higher, at 18.5%. And among those who said they felt older than they were, 24.6% passed away during the intervention. How old do YOU feel you are?
